About Us
Titus Flux Reclaiming began business with the opening of a recycling facility in the US in 1975. A 2nd facility was opened shortly thereafter in Toronto, Canada. The acceptance of recrushed Submerged Arc Welding Flux was immediate and many fabricators in Canada and the U.S. began to recycle their welding slag in order to save money and avoid dumping a valuable resource in landfills.
However, it soon became apparent that some large fabricators were prevented from realizing these savings due to the fact that many of the AWS, ASME and CSA codes did not recognize the benefits of recrushed slag.
Over the course of the next 10 years the company contracted a number of respected research facilities such as Edison Welding Institute, The Ontario Research Foundation, and others, to conduct research into all aspects of recrushing and reusing sub-merged arc slag. This research centered on detailed analysis of chemical and mechanical changes, weld properties and characteristics of virgin vs. recrushed etc. (All research is available upon request)
This research was submitted to the various AWS and ASME sub-committees and over the years the welding codes were changed to permit the use of recrushed slag. Had it not been for this research, fabricators would have been denied the significant savings available. More importantly, over 200 millions more pounds of weld slag would have been dumped in landfills over the past 35 years.
In 1999 Titus Flux decided to duplicate the manufacturing process of the virgin flux manufacturers in an effort to increase quality and output. The installation of a new high speed cage mill and process was completed in 2000. At the same time it became apparent that the volume and quality of the recrushed slag demanded a change in processing equipment. In 2002, the company purchased RECTRON, a small recrushing imitator and moved the operation to Cartersville Georgia. There was a significant and immediate increase in the quality of the product, to the same level and in some cases exceeding the level achieved by the virgin flux manufactures.
In 2010 AMERICAN WELDING and FLUX began operations with the establishment a joint venture manufacturing plant in Asia to manufacture Virgin Flux. This flux is added
as a top up to recrushed slag customers. It is also sold to companies that for “contract” reasons are unable to use recrushed slag.
TITUS FLUX continues to grow as more and more fabricators realize the environmental and financial savings associated with recrushing their Sub Arc Welding Slag.
